Kimberly Orchards has been growing fruit trees along the fertile banks of the North Fork of the John Day River, in Kimberly, Oregon, for 54 years. Much of their success is due to the weather. It takes a special combination of sun and rain to make fruit naturally sweet and flavorful and that's just what this valley provides.
Kimberly, Oregon has been known for it's sweet, tree-ripened fruit since the 1930s when Orin Kimberly established the first commercial orchard in the area. Back then, Orin Kimberly's main crop was peaches and he sold them in markets all over the northwest. The peaches were so remarkably sweet and flavorful that people began to look for them each season and would wait for the "Kimberly Crop" instead of buying peaches from other areas. So the storekeepers started advertising "Kimberly Peaches" for sale and consumers began to think of the Kimberly Peach as a new variety.
W.B. Thomas and his wife Emily started the Thomas Orchards in Kimberly in 1947. They purchased the Kimberly Orchards in 1967. Today Thomas Orchards and The Kimberly Fruit Company are still owned and operated by the Thomas family under it's new name Kimberly Orchards, LLC. Emily, sons John and Jim, and grandson Chuck, with their families, all live on the orchard grounds and take care of the daily farming operation. Daughter Alice runs a market for the fruit in Great Falls, Montana.
Today people know there isn't a "Kimberly Peach", but anyone who has tasted any fruit from the Kimberly Orchards would agree that "Kimberly Fruit is the best tasting fruit around."
